Multiple vulnerabilities have been discovered in Microsofts web browser, Internet Explorer, which could result in remote code execution. If a user views a specially crafted website using Internet Explorer, an attacker could gain the same privileges as the logged on user. Depending on the privileges associated with the user, an attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.
OCTOBER 16, 2013 - UPDATED OVERVIEW:
MS13-080, a cumulative update for Internet Explorer, has been updated by Microsoft. Ten vulnerabilities were previously listed, but now only nine are identified. The vulnerability removed from the cumulative update is CVE-2013-3871, and was described in the original bulletin as a memory corruption vulnerability. CVE-2013-3871 is scheduled to be addressed in a future security update.

UPDATED DESCRIPTION - October 16, 2013
Ten vulnerabilities were previously listed under MS13-080. Now the listing only shows nine. The vulnerability that was removed is CVE-2013-3871, a memory corruption vulnerability. Microsoft has taken this particular vulnerability out of MS13-080 and will address it in a future patch.
- Apply appropriate patches provided by Microsoft to vulnerable systems immediately after appropriate testing.
- Run all software as a non-privileged user (one without administrative privileges) to diminish the effects of a successful attack.
- Remind users not to visit un-trusted websites or follow links provided by unknown or un-trusted sources.
