Overview: 

Multiple vulnerabilities have been discovered in Cisco Devices, the most severe of which could allow for remote command execution. Cisco is a vender for IT, networking and cybersecurity solutions. Successful exploitation of the most severe of these vulnerabilities could result in an attacker gaining root privilege. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.

Description: 

Multiple vulnerabilities have been discovered in Cisco Products, the most severe of which could result in arbitrary code execution. These vulnerabilities can be exploited when maliciously crafted packets are sent to the vulnerable device. Details of the vulnerabilities are as follows:

  • A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco Small Business RV110W, RV130, RV130W, and RV215W Routers could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on an affected device. (CVE-2020-3323)
  • A vulnerability in the Telnet service of Cisco Small Business RV110W Wireless-N VPN Firewall Routers could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to take full control of the device with a high-privileged account. (CVE-2020-3330)
  • A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of the Cisco RV110W Wireless-N VPN Firewall, RV130 VPN Router, RV130W Wireless-N Multifunction VPN Router, and RV215W Wireless-N VPN Router could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass authentication and execute arbitrary commands with administrative commands on an affected device. (CVE-2020-3144)
  • A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco RV110W Wireless-N VPN Firewall and Cisco RV215W Wireless-N VPN Router could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on an affected device. (CVE-2020-3331)
  • A vulnerability in the web management interface of Cisco Prime License Manager (PLM) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to gain unauthorized access to an affected device. (CVE-2020-3140)

 

Successful exploitation of the most severe of these vulnerabilities could result in an attacker gaining root privilege. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.

Actions: 
  • After appropriate testing, immediately apply patches or proper mitigations provided by Cisco to vulnerable systems.
  • Run all software as a non-privileged user (one without administrative rights) to diminish the effects of a successful attack.
  • Remind all users not to visit untrusted websites or follow links provided by unknown or untrusted sources.
  • Inform and educate users regarding threats posed by hypertext links contained in emails or attachments especially from untrusted sources.
  • Apply the Principle of Least Privilege to all systems and services.
