Vulnerabilities have been discovered in Microsoft Office that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted file in an affected version of Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office is an office suite of desktop applications, servers and services for both Microsoft Windows and Apples OS X operating systems. Successful exploitation could result in the attacker gaining the same user rights as the current user. Depending on the privileges associated with the user, an attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.

Memory corruption vulnerabilities have been reported in Microsoft Office that could allow remote code execution. Vulnerabilities exist when affected Microsoft Office software parses specially crafted files from an email attachment or specially crafted website. Successful exploitation could result in the attacker gaining the same user rights as the current user. Depending on the privileges associated with the user, an attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.
- Apply appropriate patches provided by Microsoft to vulnerable systems immediately after appropriate testing.
- Run all software as a non-privileged user (one without administrative privileges) to diminish the effects of a successful attack.
- Remind users not to download or open files from un-trusted websites.
- Remind users not to open email attachments from unknown users or suspicious emails from trusted sources.
- Remind users not to visit un-trusted websites or follow links provided by unknown or un-trusted sources.
